Project Description

Delayed Fracture Healing : Either non-union or delayed healing of bone fractures are not uncommon problems that the Orthopedic surgeon deals with and leads to prolonged patient recovery. While there are a few metabolic bone diseases that may be a cause of delayed healing (over-active parathyroid hormone; low vitamin D levels, hypophosphatemia or RTA, most delayed healing of fractures has no underlying metabolic disorder), the good news is that the pharmacological agents FDA approved to stimulate new bone formation, the anabolic agents: teriparatide (FORTEO™), abaloparatide (Tymlos™) have been shown in case reports to accelerate fracture healing.
